Assignment 7: On This Date - Thomas Stokes

On September 30th, 1954 there was a submarine. This submarine was named the USS Nautilus. September 30th,1954 was the day this vessel was to be commissioned for service. This event wasn't just another commissioning; It was the first nuclear powered vehicle to be commissioned for service. This was a tremendous step forward for not only our use of energy, but our applications of it. I appreciate this event because it shows how capable we can be as a species in forwarding our efficiency with our energy, and we'll even continue this advancement with solar and wind power becoming larger here in the United States.
