Assignment 13: Changes! - Tora Sellers

We aren’t supposed to judge a book by its cover. It’s a simple and easy way to avoid prejudice. However, people neglect to state that much information can be extracted simply by glancing at the figurative book cover. For instance: if a house is big, expensive, and in a nice neighborhood, it’s most likely a good house. This principle applies to nearly all things in life. In a society that is so politically correct, it becomes difficult to understand some things when they should be very simple. Because most violent or drug related crimes are perpetrated by minorities, it is not unreasonable to be distrustful of a black or latino youth that is walking down a shady neighborhood. Especially in an ethnically homogeneous nation such as Japan, foreigners are different and unpredictable, and often not assimilated into the culture. So, the police will take the individual in for questioning, or pat them down for anything illegal. The police must maintain this right because there is nothing wrong with being questioned if one has nothing to hide.
