iWrite- Raiffa Syamil

As I think about this prompt, I can’t help my mind from wandering into a world with no technology, no internet, no electricity. Just nothing. What would it be like to be self-sufficient and not have all the power of the world in my pocket? But then I realize that these are not the questions I’m supposed to answer to I fast forward like a century or two.

20 years ago… what was the world like 20 years ago?
We definitely still had electricity and stuff but what about the internet… I guess we didn't have the same ease that technology brings to our lives. Well, since I live with a bunch of technology geeks (minus my clueless mother) Imma ask them how computers and the internet was different in the 90s.

*musical interlude*

The main thing they emphasized is how much more memory, computing power, and access we have to all the high end gadgets. I’m sure everyone is familiar with the dreaded dial-up internet and how *fast* that was. But back then that’s all the really needed. In the early 90s, computers were mainly used for, well, computing.  The general public did not really use computers and the internet for leisure until the early 2000s and I think this is where the real difference would be made in my life.

On my laptop the only work I do is for school and it’s really only for English with essays or the occasional presentation for a class. The internet is really where I live and if I didn't have that I really would have no reason to own a laptop. But I think that might be a good thing because I feel like I’m too dependent and attached to the internet (much like everyone else). I don’t get to experience life to the fullest because I’m too busy experiencing it online. I almost miss those early 2000s days when there would always be someone in my apartment neighborhood thing to climb trees and do crafts in the laundry room. And I would only be on the computer to fulfill my daily dose of playhousedisney.com and to click and drag the mouse on the desktop to make rectangles. But I guess it’s a different world we live in and it’s only going to keep changing from here. So no use dwelling on the past! Go buy the newest iPhone and hang out with people only to see them interacting with other people on twitter instead of with the person right in front of them.

Isn't technology wonderful?
