Create your own adventure - Taylor Stewart

1. Do you think that news broadcasting nowadays is effective? Consider bias, accuracy or reports, and selection/focus on stories.
2. "Kiln People", by Daniel Brin, is about a society where you can create clay copies of yourself to do various tasks (challenging, dangerous, boring, etc.) while you do something else, then you can download their memories back into you. If you had ten copies of yourself to use today, what would you have them do? Why?
3. Do you believe that standardized tests generally do a good job of assessing skills and knowledge that will benefit you and society as a whole, or do you think that they often fail in their intended purpose? How much of a role do you think they should play in determining a school's, teacher's, or student's aptitude?

I responded to prompt 3.

Standardized testing has become such a, well, standard, in modern education systems that it's hard to imagine a system without them. They have one purpose, with different interpretations. They aim to assess ability. Whether it be the ability of a school district, teacher, or individual, standardized tests "measure" that ability. I believe that these tests do an adequate job of generally measuring the abilities of a broad range of people. But when it gets more specific, the accuracy of these tests varies much more. Scores can depend on many factors, such as if the student is a good test taker, a good memorizer, or maybe good at interpreting cold information. How could we improve standardized testing? Efforts should be made to make them less standard - to assess a broad range of skills rather than just a few.
