Create Your Own Adventure - Keanu Gomez

Prompt 1: During many of our breaks from school, whether it is summer break, winter break, or spring break, we can see teachers loading us with some time consuming projects or assignments. It is very rare for us students to actually get a complete “break” from school. What are your thoughts about this? Do you think it’s beneficial or is it just completely annoying? Do you think having assignments over breaks are fair, or not?

Prompt 2: Everybody has a certain genre that they like to read the most. Or maybe this is the genre that they are the most comfortable with. However, your favorite book might not be in your favorite genre. What is your favorite book of all time and why? Is the genre of your favorite book the same as your preferred book genre?

Prompt 3: As high school students, we are becoming more and more involved with our school life. We face the many challenges of being a high school student in the Liberal Arts Academy. We have all experienced a dreadful week where we had a major test in almost every class. To get through weeks like these, how do you manage all that stress? What are your stress relieving activities? Are they effective?

Prompt 1 Response:
One of my most annoying memories of middle school was having to do that dumb science fair project every single winter break. I find it really unnecessary to have to do these time-consuming projects over our school breaks. I thought that these breaks were called “breaks” because they would give us release from school work. But, some teachers practically make us still have school at home through their massive homework assignments. I personally don’t complain if these assignments are fairly short and easy, but the majority of the time, they are very time-consuming.  I don’t see many benefits from having these assignments over break other than maintaining your brain. They ruin the whole point of having a “break” in the first place.  Other than that, by giving these projects over break, they usually result in a lower quality project. Most students probably just do the assignment to get it over with, without putting forth maximum effort or thought. So, I think that projects over breaks are fair in the sense that we are students trying to get an education, but I find it unfair that we have to do school work instead of actually getting to relax during our break. Because after a few days, or weeks, we will be back to our reality at school.
