Assignment 15 Ian Harrison

What medium do you think best expresses a story?
In my opinion, movies are the best medium with which to tell a story. Books are a close second because I believe in the power of the written word, but it's much easier for a director to get their vision across because they are stimulating the senses humans use and rely on the most: sight and hearing. Movies create the illusion of reality by trying to create its own version of reality. In movies we can see and hear characters interacting with each other and understand exactly what the director and write intend for us to (usually). Little is left to the imagination and thus themes and ideas can be expressed more thoroughly. I personally find it much easier to understand or identify with a character I can see and hear as opposed to one that I have to envision or just hear. In conclusion, I think movies are the best way to tell a story because they are the closest to "real" a story can be.
