Assignemt 10 Ian Harrison

What am I most scared of? To be honest, I've got a bit of writer's block right now and all the other prompts didn't look like things I could write much about, so I'm just gonna take this one and completely wing it. I'm pretty scared of drowning, a fear multiplied by perhaps an unnecessary number of viewings of the movie The Prestige. The ocean in general is pretty scary, so I guess drowning in the middle of the ocean is my greatest fear. To me, that represents the ultimate human fear, which is dying slowly, painfully, and alone. The ocean: no one for miles and miles, deeper than one could imagine, filled with large, weird, and possibly hostile creatures, and if you catch it on a bad day, battering you with waves the size of small buildings with the force of a truck. Drowning: letting go of the most basic human survival instinct and being consumed inside out by water. Yeah, sounds like a pretty scary way to go. All in all, I feel like my fear is pretty justified. I don't think anyone would enjoy that. The main reason this is so scary to me though is because it's not improbable. Many people are scared of ghosts or other things that are pretty rare if they exist at all, while drownings probably occur every day. It's a very real possibility, which is why we try to prepare for it so much when traveling by boat with life jackets and other things. In conclusion, I'm scared of drowning because it means dying, which in itself is pretty scary, and doing so in a painful (in multiple ways) way.
