I do
not watch very much television on a daily basis. The only consistent viewing
that I do is during mealtimes. I personally find other forms of entertainment
to be more appealing than television. There are two main reasons for this: I
enjoy entertainment that is interactive and I value convenience in
entertainment. My computer serves as my main source of entertainment for both
of these reasons. It is both interactive and convenient in that I can switch
between many different options (music, videos, games, etc.) with ease, and I
can (for the most part) choose how long I want to use a given option. For
example, rather than commit to watching a 30 minute television program and
switching channels between commercials, I can choose instead to watch a 5
minute video on the internet. Or watch a 10 minute video. Or watch half of a 30
minute video, pause it, and finish the rest later. When I do watch television,
it is because it is more convenient for me to turn on the television that is
already present rather than move my computer set up to a different room or
floor. And as such, I prefer shows that don’t have plots per se, like SportsCenter
or Pawn Stars. I can watch these types of shows whenever without becoming lost
due to missing plot information.
