Howdy - Jacob

I am Jacob Faulkner. Something that interests me is watching TV. My major goal for school is to pass. I need some one hundred and fifteen word to reach the standards, so here's some stuff that I geek over. I like Always's Sunny in Philadelphia, Seinfeld, Malcolm in the Middle, That 70's Show, My Name is Earl, Everybody Hates Chris, Wilfred, Parks and Recreation, Futurama, The Simpsons, Bob's Burgers, Louie, Community, How I Met Your Mother, King of the Hill, Black Jesus, China IL, The Boondocks, The Andy Griffith Show, Sandford and Son, The Jeffersons, Good Times, The Wayans Bros, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Friends, South Park, American Horror Story, Psych, Law and Order, That's So Rave, The Magic Schoolbus, The Golden Girls, Let's Make a Deal, Whose Line is it Anyway, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, Monk, Workaholics, Saved by the Bell, and Cheers. This was in no particular order.

Skylar Mays

Hey, my name is Skylar Mays, I am 16 and currently only have my driving permit. I'm super into making and commissioning art and listening to the two door cinema club Pandora station. Fun fact about myself is I have a youtube channel with only one video, but it has 7500 views. Its a dubstep video me and my dad recreated. Its very slow to begin with and is kind of long but if you'd like to watch it I'll link it in the bottom. You should know the only reason I'm willing to share it is because I'm hoping to make it my legacy.
I am also on the girls soccer team and have many academic achievements you probably couldn't care less to hear about. Not going to lie, when I saw "something that geeks you out" at first I thought it was referring to the slang definition of geek where you laugh a lot. But I'm totally "geeked out" by the show Supernatural.
I don't know if I'd so much like to have a superpower but more of be like batman or ironman and just be insanely rich and intelligent.

Howdy! Keanu Gomez

Hi guys! As you might already know, my name is Keanu. I am a fairly short Asian from the Philippines. And like the stereotypical Asian, I like to play instruments. Ever since 3rd grade I have been playing the viola, but when high school started, I began to study the piano. Between the two, I prefer piano.

As for my personal and academic goals for this school year, my main one is to pass all 5 of my AP classes with a 4+. But sometimes, I just wish to simply survive taking 5 of these difficult classes. Besides from AP, I also want to get an A in all of my classes. I also want to score well on my ACT this year.

My summer this year was mostly just staying home and watching on Netflix, but there were some really fun moments like when we went to TN and Holiday World with a bunch of church friends. The most meaningful moment of my summer was when I was able to conquer my first roller coaster. Some of you might laugh at this because you probably rode your first roller coaster as soon as you were tall enough to ride. But for me, I never dared to ride a roller coaster before in my life. But with the support and continued pestering of my friends, I finally succumbed to the temptation. By the end of that day, we rode all the roller coasters in Holiday World.

If I were to choose one superpower it would be telekinesis. Whenever I watch marvel movies, I always wish I had the power to control things with my mind. I really don't know why, but that's the power I would choose.

I guess the thing that really geeks me out is my love for anime. I really enjoy watching anime on my spare time. I favor more mainstream anime, like Attack on Titan or Sword Art Online, but this might be only because I never tried to watch the obscure or less popular anime shows.

Because of this, I guess my favorite website would be where I watch these shows.
http://www.animefreak.tv

My name is Johnathan Morris, formely Johnathan Fendley, but it was changed when my biological father disowned me and my step father adopted me. I play for the baseball team at Clay and I would love to play at the next level if I ever get the opportunity. I have been playing various sports since before I can remember. I live in a very competitive family with two older brothers who used to beat me at everything I did, from sports, to video games, to who could eat the most at thanksgiving. Since then my competitve spirit has not let up, I still strive to be better than everyone at anything I do.

One thing that fascinates me that not a lot of people know about is my love for superheroes. Ever since I was in diapers I've been intrigued by superpowers. I go see basically any superhero movie that comes out. This being said if I had any superpwer it would be to morph into any animal of my choosing, like Beast Boy from Teen Titans, which was my favorite show when I was younger and I still watch reruns to this day. I'm also really into shoes. To me some shoes are pieces of art more than some rubber things you put on your feet. I prefer Nike but if I see an Adidas or New Balance or Asics shoe that I think looks nice i wont not buy it because of the brand.

My favorite website: http://sneakernews.com/
Below are a couple of my favortite shoes.

Assignment 1: Howdy--Amir Abou-Jaoude

My name is Amir Abou-Jaoude, and I am passionate about film.  I first became interested in film when I took a Video Productions class in 8th grade. Since then, I've seen a variety of classic films, and some favorites include Rainer Werner Fassbinder's The Marriage of Maria Braun, Kenji Mizoguchi's Ugetsu, Ingmar Bergman's Persona,  Robert Altman's Nashville, Jacques Demy's The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, and Akira Kurosawa's Ran. For me, these films prove that movies are not simply a way to kill time on a rainy day. Instead, I feel that film can be a powerful form of artistic expression. A filmmaker can form an intimate connection with his audience and impart to them a unique perspective on the world. I believe that movies, no matter how depressing or pessimistic they are, are a celebration of life and a reminder of the diversity that exists in the world. I've learned a lot about film from the late Chicago Sun-Times movie critic Roger Ebert, and below is a link to a collection of his "Great Movies" reviews.

Another interest of mine is art history. I greatly enjoyed taking an art history class last year, and I find it fascinating how art can mirror political, economic, and social events. My favorite artists are the Baroque painter Caravaggio and the Japanese woodblock artist Hokusai. I've included an image of my favorite Hokusai print below. In addition to film and art history, I also admire the music of Richard Wagner. As much of a flawed man as he was, Wagner was able to suffuse his music with so much emotion and pathos.

I guess that is what "geeks" me out. In the future, I would like to become a film director and screenwriter. I was given the amazing opportunity to hone my skills as a writer this summer at the Governor's School for the Arts. This year, I would like to write and produce my own film. If I could have one superpower, it would be to capture everything at twenty-four frames per second...

Hello everyone, my name is Lucy Macfarlan and I am writing for your entertainment (or not, I may not be incredibly entertaining). I obviously can't put into 150 words the essence of my being but I guess I can give you a pretty good idea of what I like a whole lot and what I define myself by.
At the risk of sounding overly opinionated (okay, maybe radical) I will say that majorly define myself with my political views and my constant attempt to educate people on what is happening in our world and what we can do about it. On a much less aggressive note, I love music. I love to listen to it, make it, talk about it, read about it, anything really. I am currently working on a skate/surf punk project with two of my friends who happen to be phenomenal musicians. I spend way too much of my time on music blogs and other weird holes on the internet trying to find new and interesting music. I'm really interested in the cultures that other people create for themselves and I want nothing more in life than to travel the world and to encounter as many different people and cultures as possible (huge money maker, I know).

Fav website, Yonce goes in: http://flawless.beyonce.com/

Howdy - Charlie Payne

My name is Charlie Payne and I never met anyone else named Charlie until my freshman year of high school, when there were at least two others in my academy class. Music is something that interests me quite a bit, and I consume massive amounts of it daily. I'm interested in people, talking to people and knowing people and the different cultures people live in, whether on a small or large scale. I'm interested in film, and books, and art (which honestly I know almost nothing about), and all other kinds of creative output. I enjoy fashion and image, and how people interact with it on a regular basis. If this comes off as very two-dimensional, it's because it literally is.
There is a great deal more to a person than what can be said in 150 words. It takes most people years and years of constant interaction to truly know and understand someone, and even then, the experiences that have formed me into the person I am are certainly not the same as anyone else's. So can I know someone as well as I know myself? With that being said, all I know about my own future is that I want to experience things and be molded into a precise and unique person. In the words of Beyonce, my aspiration in life is to be happy.
If I could have any superpower, I would be able to dance like Usher without looking like an ass.

Howdy- Mikaela Gatewood

Hi, I’m Mikaela Gatewood. I just moved to Lexington last year, so some of you might not actually know me that well. I'm into art, especially architecture. In fact, I'd like to be an architect once I graduate college. I'd like to think of architecture as practical art. You have an opportunity to turn buildings, something that everyone uses daily, into something beautiful and interesting, which I find neat. One of my favorite architects is Frank Lloyd Wright, who designed some pretty amazing houses as well as the Guggenheim Museum in New York City. If you've never heard of him then you should look him up, he's done some cool stuff.

One of the highlights of my summer was actually going design camp at UK, because not only did I get to learn more about architecture but I also met some pretty cool people there too. I also went to Paris with my best friends from Denver, which is where I moved from. It was a really interesting experience, since most of the time it was just 5 sixteen year old girls wandering around a city they didn't know much about. We got lost way too many times, and probably seemed like oblivious American tourists, but I had an amazing time. It was also just good to see my friends again.

If I could have one super power it'd be to shape shift, or at least manipulate my appearance so I could disguise myself. Think Tonks from Harry Potter. Not only could you always have the best costumes but you could look like anybody you wanted to, which I think could be pretty cool

This is my friends music blog, it's pretty cool and I look at it a lot so here you go http://minormag.tumblr.com/

Assignment 1, Howdy: Jesse Konopka

I'm Jesse Konopka. Honestly, there's not much you really need to know about me to get me. My life mostly consists of video games, the internet, and doing homework. I really don't have much of a plan for my future. All I know is that I'm a very quick learner, so I'll probably be able to get behind what I decide. I've never been the most interesting guy. I don't get out much at all. However, the one thing I really obsess over is video games. I personally believe that if a video game is done right it can be many things. Some video games make you feel like your in another world. Others are just made to have fun. Even more are just made so you can compete with people and brag about how well you did.
Honestly, I prefer games that have a good story to them. I'm not a big fan of games with good mechanics but bad plots. The original point of making video games was to feel like you're somewhere you're not. Without a decent story, that can't happen. There are a few exceptions, but none that apparent. Pictures relating to some of my favorite video games are below.

Howdy - Taylor Stewart

Hi, I'm taylor. I've been reading all the other posts and that's freaked me out even more from writing this but it's okay, I'm cool, here goes.
So, I'm a junior at HCHS (duh) - but I also do indeed have a life outside of school. I've been figure skating for three-ish years, and one of my biggest nonacademic goals this year is to be able to complete the salchow-toe loop combination, preferably without falling. I love watching good movies (Ink is one of my favorites) as well as TV shows (Chuck most recently) and occasionally reading books, although I don't have much time to do so. In books, The True Meaning of Smekday, and I admit that it is a children's novel, is one of my favorites. I listen to music as much as I can, and am constantly in pursuit of new artists to listen to. I also dabble in art okay yeah that sounds incredibly pretentious, I am interested in art. Prints and patterns. Zentangles are really great you should definitely check those out (see below). Fun facts: my favorite punctuation is the parentheses (as you can probably tell), my favorite words are sleeve and quixotic, and my biggest pet peeve is the mispronunciation of "Reese's Pieces", which I hear CONSTANTLY.

What am I a geek for? That's been mostly established, but I will elaborate. I'm a sports fan (NFL and NHL mostly), and a gamer - but not a "gamer". Comics? I'm pretty into that type of thing but not as die-hard as many of my peers are. That's me surrendering to any competition right there.
I didn't know about the superpower thing so I took a quiz and it said I should have "the power of white hot puns," but I'm not sure exactly what that entails. Anyway.

The most meaningful moment of my summer was the birth of my sister, Madeleine.

Howdy-Sydney Taylor

For those of you reading this, my name is Sydney Taylor. I really don't like these introduction assignments where you basically have to attempt to show people the highlights of your personality in a short amount of time because when I'm called upon to tell people things about myself, in an instant I forget everything interesting about myself. This applies even with the week-long time span I had to complete this. My academic goals don't range very far from the average academy student's. I want to get decent grades and pass as many of my AP tests as I can. I joined the Speech and Debate Team last year because giving speeches is pretty fun and I had a lot of encouragement from my favorite teacher, Mr. Ray. This summer, I went to a speech camp at WKU and while there I wrote an oratory for competition about people's inaction when it comes to solving big problems in the world. This was before the ALS ice challenge craze or I probably would have included some analysis on that. Recently what has geeked me out a lot is a newish talk show called Last Week Tonight hosted by John Oliver. I like to know about current events in the world, but I prefer when someone else sorts through it to find the most important points and then gives it hilarious and slightly cynical commentary. I watch entirely too much tv, I'm pretty into old movies, I'm a big fan of Reds baseball, if I could have any super power it'd be the power to read peoples' minds, and I would love to live anywhere on the beach especially Charleston, South Carolina.

This is me and two friends at camp this summer.

I don't really have a favorite website, but here's a link to one of my personal favorite episodes of Last Week Tonight?

Howdy- Maddie Wheeler

My name is Maddie, fully Madison, but only my mom calls me that. I am a pretty simple person, to most. Some people like to over analyze me, but those are the people that don’t get that almost everything I say is sarcastic. Keep that in mind. My academic goals are more long term than short. I’d like to score well on my ACT and keep my grades up but I’m not extremely focused on my GPA. I like to believe that a number doesn't define who you really are. Maybe that’s ignorant of me, but I’m still happy with myself. Ultimately that’s all that matters. My personal goals don’t go that far either. I like to be a good friend. That’s pretty easy though. I just try to keep in mind that you should live while you’re young, but you still shouldn't do anything too stupid. I spend a lot of my time baking, playing with my puppy, listening to music, watching Netflix, and occasionally hanging out at a friend’s house. My summer vacation was pretty chilled out. I mostly had a stay-cation, spending a lot of time with old friends. My oldest sister Tiffany had her 2nd child, whom I went to visit, and I can happily report that her daughter is adorable. That was probably the most meaningful single moment of my summer, although gaining back some friends I had drifted from was pretty amazing. If I was to have any superpower, I’d probably want to be in two places at once. I like to spend time at home baking and listening to Alt-J (loud only), but I also love to be outside hiking and running around with my lacrosse stick. If I could be doing both of those things at once, I’d be a very happy girl. Something that geeks me out at the moment is, as pretentious as it is, vinyl. One of my friends recently purchased a record player and some awesome albums on vinyl, and I've become obsessed. This has also inspired me to redecorate my room. I’m one that really needs a place that I can call home. Now that my closest sibling has moved out and I’m all alone, I get to really decorate my space and make myself completely comfortable at home. Room decor is another thing that totally geeks me out, and I’m trying to combine the both. I've linked urban outfitter’s apartment tab, because I want EVERYTHING. And also the picture I've added is of the record player, also from urban outfitters, which I've convinced myself I need.

side note: isn't it gorgeous?

Howdy- Tora Sellers

My name is Tora Sellers. I honestly hate “introduction assignments” like this because I feel that they are boring. But I also understand Mr. Logsdon’s need to get to know the students on a personal level, so I have no choice but to complete it. I’m generally into music, movies, and TV dramas. More specifically, I’m currently really into A$AP Rocky and Schoolboy Q. They’re both great rappers that come from different experiences and backgrounds, and therefore rap about very different subjects. Because of this, I like the two for different reasons. Schoolboy Q, I believe, is the superior rapper between the two, and I mainly like him for his flows. Rocky, on the other hand, doesn’t come from the drug gang background that Q came from (although that life was certainly visible), so I appreciate his sense of fashion and personality. I wish that I could imitate Rocky’s fashion, but I sadly don’t have enough cash to be filling my wardrobe with Versace, Gucci and the like.

Howdy! Kimba Butts

Hey all! This is fellow student Kimba posting about that age-old question: "Who am I?"

For starters I have the goal of being able to pass all my classes this year and end up with at least a 3.0 GPA. As for personal, I haven't really put too much thought into what I want for this school year. The only one I can think of would be to find a summer job to start getting money to help my family keep living in our box of a home, as well as be able to drive independently.

The most meaningful moment during my summer vacation is really hard to pinpoint. There were honestly so many points to pick out that I don't know if I can choose just one. But one of the ones that will continue to stick with me is the very last day of a camp I went to called Stomp Week. It was tough having to see so many people I grew even closer to, or started to grow close to, go away, even I would see most a few months later. Tears were shed that day and I'm happy to say I was one of those that did.

Favorite superpower? Easy. One of the best powers on can have: the complete manipulation of time itself. Slowing it down, speeding it up, even stopping it completely. The best part is I can manipulate just one area's time so, in a sense, I could make myself look like I have superspeed when really everyone is moving at a snails pace. Broken power? Yes. Superman power boring? A little. Still fun to use? Oh yeah.

Lastly, what I Geek about. I am a very diverse geek. I like to do and experience many things. The main things I Geek over would be: Games (video, card, board, you name it), Anime, Writing (Mostly just writing short stories or novellas whenever I feel), Musical Theatre i.e. Dancing, Singing, and Acting (There's that diverse), Music, and Technology

Slow handclap if you get the pic!

Howdy- Raiffa Syamil

I feel like starting of this post with “Hello! My name is…” is kind of redundant considering I honestly just wrote that in the title… so look up like an inch.

I file this under "stupid things"
I do stupid things with my friends, I’m really into making myself laugh (cause I’m the only one who will really laugh at my terrible genius humor), and I eat too much sugar. I taught myself guitar and ukulele in 8th grade but I stepped on my uke over the summer… so yeah.

Oh, what geeks me out. A better question would be what doesn’t geek me out. I have a tendency to get intensely obsessive over things. So a new TV show will take me somewhere between 2 days and 2 weeks to finish depending on how much time I have and how many
seasons. When I was getting into Supernatural 2 years ago I would wake up at 8 AM, watch a whole season, and then sleep around 2 AM. (and at that time Supernatural had 7 seasons on Netflix)

Along with every TV show and movie with a cult following (the fancy terminology for fandom) I’m really into all things music. I have a weird musical spectrum but it tends to lean towards boy bands… and British. Also I have been labeled by friends as having a thing for ginger singers (i.e. Ed Sheeran and Ryan Melia from PigPen Theater Co. Oh god this man’s voice is heaven please just. This. And thisAnd

Much like marathoning TV series, I try to listen to music I like ad nauseam.

Woo! Almost there. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for taking the time to read this dissertation on my interests.

Last but definitely not least, YouTube. Oh this one is bad. As of today I am subscribed to 241 channels on YouTube. And I watch a good majority of the things that come up on my feed. I was on YouTube when the sub button was still yellow and the description box was on the right side.

I have pondered the idea of creating my own content for this website (which I may have dabbled in and no, you will not find them) but I always feel discouraged and too limited by time and resources to continue. Over the years I have developed a passion for video editing and film making so I hope one day I might actually do something with that. I honestly get quite excited when a teacher assigns a video project so thank you Mr. Logsdon for making our spring semester final a PSA.
Also I'm actually in an Indonesian
primary colors gang

So yeah! That’s me. Minus the awkwardness. Which took quite a while to filter out.

Oh and if anyone is into easy baking I recommend trying this blueberry muffin in a mug from Kirbie’s Cravings. I think I ate it 3 times a day for a week. (which I guess will count as my favorite website for this assignment)

Assignment 1 Howdy: Kayla Beebout

Hi! I’m Kayla Beebout, and I’m a writer.  I think that pretty much sums up the two most important things about me.  I love stories and writing, and am working on a novel as well as writing poetry and the occasional short story on the side.  My favorite books are the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Harry Potter series, but the permanent winner is definitely LOTR.  I also love Agatha Christie’s books and the works of C. S. Lewis.  I don’t watch a lot of TV, but when I do, Doctor Who is probably my favorite show.  If I were to choose a common theme for my favorite stories, I would say adventure.  I’ve always loved reading and writing adventure stories, especially when they have complex and relatable characters.  However, I think that if I were to actually go on an adventure, I might start out a bit like the reluctant and awkward Bilbo Baggins; I just hope I would turn out as well as he did in the end!

Howdy-Andrew Hardy

Andrew Hardy,
What "geeks"-or interests- me the most is the suburbs. Living in a southern-midwestern town that is almost exclusively formed from suburbs, I have an acute relationship with them. What I'm specifically interested in are the thoughts and mediums constructed or influenced by suburban and internet-era living. Things traditionally considered urban or rural hip-hip, folk music, fashion, animal raising, are no longer defined or restricted by the location of your dwelling. With the popularization of the internet and the loosening of soci-economic classes there are no longer borders to the mass of media that has been produced. As James Murphy in the 2005 song "Losing My Edge"  sprechgesangs "I'm losing my edge to the Internet seekers who can tell me every member of every good group from 1962". This blending does not apply only to consumption. Musical or artistic genres are no longer accurate terms to describe objects because their creators have no boundaries in their inspiration. I'm much more interested in the objects that are created because of this rather than the suburbs themselves. It's an interesting correlation though.I Also I want to fly.

Assignment 1 Howdy- Jessica Nelson

Hi, my name is Jessica Nelson; but most likely you already knew that. Now for what you don't know. I have been involved in some type of performance arts (dancing, singing, or acting) since I was 5 or 6 years old. I suppose I started singing first but my first lessons were for dance. I was your stereotypical 5 year old girl, tutu, glitter and all. But at age 6 I moved to Lexington, Kentucky and was blinded by the bright spotlight of the Lexington Children's Theater. I gave up dance and took drama instead. I lasted all of 2 performances there. Although throughout life I have found times to pull theater off the back burner, it usually stays there untouched. What has really stuck with me is singing, and now, aside from girl scouts and school it has taken over. I did the chorus thing but I prefer not to be so cookie cutter (my cookie cutters stay busy with my baking addiction). Now, at 16, I like the haunting voices, the ones that convey meaning in not only what they sing but how they sing it (if you need an example the link below leads to a playlist of songs I am currently adoring).I am geeked out by whatever song I am listening to and transforming into my own, I do YouTube covers and rarely stay interested in an artist past a song or 2 (with some exceptions, like the Script and One Republic who I went to see this summer). I love to pull ideas from covers done on vocal competition shows, but I watch them alone because I am the female version of Simon in this situation and I have a tendency to shout my criticism at whatever deer-in-the-headlights contestant is currently making my ears bleed (although if I like the artist it comes out in a contradictory tone of encouragement), which is quite funny because in everyday life I seem like more of a Paula. I am as hard on myself as I am on them, which slows down the process of putting out covers quite a lot, but my goal for this year is to post at least 1 cover a month on my YouTube channel, while maintaining my record of scoring 4 or higher on AP tests (if only memorizing grammar rules came as easily as memorizing song lyrics).

Howdy - Alex Wyllie

Hello world.
I, as you probably already know, am Alex Wyllie. I am the creator of many Quizlet classes, incredibly long and detailed presentations (I think my 90-minute record still holds), and of the all new Henry Clay Quizlet Club. This year, I am aiming for a 5 on every single one of my five AP tests, and I seek to maintain my presidency of the Henry Clay JCL (I am currently the only candidate for president, but there is a small chance I don't win), all while spreading Quizlet throughout Henry Clay. I am considering running for the presidency of the Kentucky JCL, and I look forward to any new academic challenges or opportunities this year. I am an Apple fan, and justified so having used Windows and Linux in the past. I remember a lot of things (partially thanks to Quizlet, large sets of notes and spreadsheets), so feel free to ask me any questions about school stuff.

The Quizlet club is being organized by LTC Brown and I, with the goal of consistently spreading Quizlet throughout the school with as few errors, problems, or complications as possible. If you are interested (and community service is being offered), let us know by applying for the class, linked above, and we'll let you in at the first meeting on Wednesday, September 3. A Quizlet account is required.

For everyone that's made it this far, have a link to my twitter. It's for stuff. Anything and many things me.

And now, for a picture of me atop the Žižkov tower in Prague, Czech Republic:
